Here Is What Patchkeeper Does:
SCANNING: A Windows system is scanned to identify the operating system, Microsoft applications and security patches currently installed. That data is then compared against a highly detailed web database of the most current security patch information and any patches that should be on that machine but are missing are identified.
PACKAGING: After identifying which patches are missing, the packaging engine in Patchkeeper creates a type of custom installation package just for that one machine. This package contains all the files and data necessary to install the missing patches onto that one machine. Patches are installed, based upon rules selected by the system administrator.

It is broadly recognised the best practice in patch management is to test all patches before deploying them, in case they break applications the organisation depends on for its production. Most sys admins have a few systems they use for testing.
